The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against global hunger. Operations aim to:
Save lives in refugee crises and other emergencies
Improve nutrition and quality of life of world’s most vulnerable people at critical times in their lives
Enable development by (a) helping people build assets that benefit them directly; (b) promoting the self-reliance of poor people and communities
According to the WFP, every five seconds a child dies because she or he is hungry.
Even a small donation will go a long way. Porridge, rice or beans — it takes just 25 cents to fill one of the Red Cups that WFP uses to give hungry kids regular school meals. This food will not only feed bodies but also minds and transform lives.
Please spread the word to your friends and family, your communities, your schools, your colleagues and help change these people’s lives.

Just another one champion sound

who the hottest in the world right now.
Just touched down in London town.
Bet they give me a pound.
Tell them put the money in my hand right now.
Tell the promoter we need more seats,
we just sold out all the floor seats
Estelle: x Chorus x
Take me on a trip, I’d like to go some day.
Take me to New York, I’d love to see LA.
I really want to come kick it with you.
You’ll be my American Boy.
According to BBC.co.uk, “Dubai-based airline Emirates has become the first commercial airline to allow passengers to make mobile phone calls during flights.
The aircraft, an Airbus A340, is fitted with a system which stops mobiles from interfering with a plane’s electronics.
According to the airline, the mobile service will only be activated when the aircraft is at cruising altitude and the cabin crew will be able to monitor and control the use of the system.
Passengers will be able to receive and send text messages, but the crew will be able to prevent voice calls at certain times, such as during night flights.
Passengers will also be requested to keep their phones on “silent” mode, said the airline.
High demand
Emirates said it decided to introduce the use of mobile phones in its fleet after experiencing high demand for the phones already installed in aircraft seats.
The airline had to obtain approval from international air safety organisations before adopting the system, which was developed by the AeroMobile company.
Emirates flies to more than 60 countries and is owned by the government of Dubai.”
Building these sites, attracting millions of users and then selling out to a bureaucratic organization, seems very familiar these days and is happening more often than not. They do realize it will be used millions in the future, but the million (or billion J ) dollar question is – will it stick? More precisely speaking, will they last, more than the usual 5-7 year shelf life?
The Economist recently provided some much needed coverage in this area.
I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Nowruz! Nowruz marks the first day of spring and is celebrated as the beginning of a new year in many countries, such as Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, Afghanista, Albania and Georgia. It’s very similar to the West’s Easter celebrations.
Being Azeri, I’ve grown up celebrating this holiday with my family and close friends so I wish that you all too can find time in your busy busy lives for the ones you love, not just on Nowruz but all year round. Keep your loved ones close and remember to always be grateful for them and for all the other blessings that Allah bestows upon us each day.
Have a good one everyone! And enjoy the looong weekend, as we have tomorrow off for Prophet Muhammad’s (P.B.U.H) Birthday.
As some of you may already know, EARTH HOUR is taking place on Saturday, 29th of March. The event is part of World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) global initiative to highlight climate change. In honor of the event, several of Dubai’s organizations have volunteered to turn off their lights for a few hours on that day.
According to GulfNews.com, “Dubai Holding and the Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA) have linked up to lead the initiative that also has the support of Dubai Municipality, Dubai International Financial Centre, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai World Trade Centre, Nakheel, Emaar and creative agency Leo Burnett.
Iconic landmarks, including Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotel, will switch their exterior lights off in a symbolic gesture at 8pm local time. ”
Even some of Dubai’s major roads will have their lights reduced by up to 50% to support the cause.
So do a good thing, and switch off your lights as well on Saturday. Make the most of it by getting out of your comfort zone and thinking outside the box. After all, aren’t candle-lit dinners and enjoying the moonlight supposed to be fun and romantic??
According to Gulfnews.com, Facebook ”is working on a new instant messaging chat feature that runs inside Facebook, allowing users to hold spontaneous conversations with their friends on the site. The feature, called Facebook Chat, will not require that users download any special software, and will be introduced in a matter of weeks, the company said.
Use of Facebook has exploded fivefold over the past year and a half.
Two-thirds of its users are now located outside the United States compared with about 10 percent 18 months ago, when most members were students and living in the United States.”
